Description:
The mark on the base of this piece shows that it has a particularly close relationship with the Imperial Palace because it reads Yongzheng yuzhi ‘made by Imperial command of the Yongzheng Emperor’.
The Yongzheng emperor ruled the Qing empire for 13 years. He was a hard-working administrator who disliked corruption. He was also ruthless with anyone he thought might pose a threat to his rule. Three of his brothers died in prison whilst he was on the throne.
