Bowl

Bowl

Description:

This was probably made in the early days of the Palace glass workshops, first set up in 1696, when workers were experimenting with new techniques. Jesuit priests from Europe with glass-making skills worked there and introduced recipes for glass. This piece has become degraded (crizzled) because of a recipe that was too alkali (the opposite of acid).

Glass, blown, backed-on footring
Height: 6.9 cm, diameter: 20.0 cm
