Bowl
Description:
This bowl has a ‘pontil’ mark on the base. A glass vessel was held on an iron pontil rod whilst it was being finished. This process left a rough mark where the vessel was snapped off the rod. Often this would be smoothed out, but on this bowl it has been left visible.
Whilst this bowl was on the pontil rod a craftsman may have used pincers to draw out the lobed design. Then a thread of glass was trailed onto the base to give a foot-ring.
