Brush-washer for calligraphy
Description:
This is shaped like a lotus leaf with a lotus flower curling around the outside. Because lotuses grow in water it makes sense to use the plant as a design on a container for water. The lotus is a symbol of purity because it grows pure and fresh out of muddy water.
Buddhists likened lotuses to the Buddha who was born in an imperfect world but rose above it. The lotus is also the symbol of an educated man who follows the philosophy of Confucius.
