Snuff bottle, inside-painted
Description:
This snuff bottle is made of clear glass. The enamelled design of a landscape and flowers is painted on the inside. This was done using a very small bamboo brush bent at the tip that could be pushed into the top of the bottle and used to paint the design.
This technique required a lot of skill and patience. A painter could produce only about seven hundred bottles in their lifetime before their eyesight and co-ordination deteriorated.
