Oldest wooden house on Nevis
Description:
Plantation House, the oldest surviving wooden house on Nevis, once part of Hermitage Plantation, now a hotel.
It is the oldest wooden house on Nevis, built in the late 17th century. Construction is earthfast, that is wooden posts stuck in the ground to support the roof. The posts are cut from the tree called Lignum vitae , wood so strong that termites cannot bore into it and it does not rot.
