Minute Book of the Sailors Insurance Fund, No. 77. William Victor of the Black Prince, injured in a fall from an awning being set up on deck for the sale of slaves in Virginia. Victor was awarded a pension of 3/- a week.

The Society of Merchant Venturers is a Bristol-based organisation, which was formed in 1552 as an elite body of merchants involved in overseas trade. The Society still exists today.
