Muster roll for the ship, the Indian Prince , sailing from Bristol to Africa and St Kitts, 1766.
The Indian Prince sailed from Bonny in West Africa and thence to St Kitts in the Caribbean. The number of slaves bought and sold is not known.

It is not known where in Africa slaves were bought, or how many. The master, Thomas Mills, died, probably in Africa, and John Morgan took over command of the ship.

Muster roll for the ship, the Charming Polly , sailing from St Kitts and St Croix (Caribbean), Holyhead (North Wales) and Dublin (Ireland), 1766.
Unusually, the Charming Polly went to the island of St Croix, which was a Danish colony, although it was settled by English colonists from Montserrat. Most of Bristol’s trade was with the British Colonies.

Muster roll for the ship, the Betsey , sailing from Bristol to Africa and Jamaica, 1765.
The Betsey was a small ship of only 20 tons. Hence the small crew of 10 for a slaving voyage. It is not known how many slaves were bought in Africa, but 50 were sold in Jamaica.

Muster roll for the ship, the Pierpoint , second voyage to Africa and Jamaica, 1765.
The crew included a steward, clerk, gunner, a surgeon’s mate and a cooper. Ten of the crew died in Africa or at sea. The ship sailed for Angola in West Africa, but may have traded along the coast, as several of the crew ran away in Guinea. It is not known how many slaves were bought, but 460 or 450 were sold in Jamaica.

Muster roll for the ship, the Africa . There were 3 Bristol slaving ships called the Africa , trading betwen 1740 and 1770. This Africa apparently made 9 slaving voyages. The last 2 were under new owners John Chilcott and Company in 1774 and 1776, and the accounts book for these two voyages is in the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery.
