Nothing is known about the ship’s slaving activities at Old Calabar, and how many slaves were bought and sold.
17 of the crew died: ships might spend 8 months on the coast of West Africa buying slaves, and the crew was exposed to African diseases, against which they had no real immunity.

This was the final leg of a slaving voyage. 400 slaves were advertised for sale in Virginia. The captain here added 2 columns to the usual ones on a muster roll, When dead and or Run away. 13 crew died.

The Hope would be carrying foodstuffs and manufactured goods to Jamaica. Six of the thirteen crew ran away, and one died. Seven men were taken on in Jamaica to replace them on the homeward voyage.

Kingroad was the start of a 19 month voyage to West Africa and South Carolina.Six of the crew are marked as absent in long Boat since April 28th – whether they drowned or ran away is not clear. Import duty was paid in South Carolina on 254 slaves.
