Muster roll for the ship, the St Helena for a voyage from South Carolina, 1772.
The crew, all Bristolians, signed-on in May. Some were discharged in South Carolina in August and September, and new crew, also Bristolians, taken on for the voyage home. The ship arrived in Bristol in November.

The muster roll is a list of all crew signed on for all or part of a voyage, which was used to calculate the money each man should pay to the Sailors Hospital Fund (insurance).

There were three ships with this name employed in the slave trade. This was the largest of the three. On this voyage, the King George left Bristol for Old Calabar, West Africa, and returned via Jamaica. There are no records of the number of slaves bought and sold.

In the 1780s, there was a ship called the Ruby involved in the slave trade. This Ruby seems to be a merchant ship trading between Bristol and the colonies.

The crew were signed-on on 30th Dec 1771, for the voyage to Jamaica. They were discharged in Aug 1772 when the ship retured to Bristol, The muster roll is for the crew on the return voyage to Bristol, but the starting date of their employment is the date of their signing-on in Bristol.
