Newspaper extract from The Cornwall Chronicle, Jamaica. Advert for Just Imported herrings. Herrings were fished by British fishing fleets in towns such as Bridgewater, Somerset. They were exported to the Caribbean islands, such as Jamaica, and sold as food for slaves on plantations.

Five guinea piece
Description:
Five guinea piece, made from Guinea gold. It was first issued in 1663 and was named after the coast of Guinea in Africa. Coins were often marked to show the source of the metal. Guineas have either the plume of feathers to show Welsh gold or an elephant with a castle on its back, the badge of the Royal Africa Company.
